The
sea here is a delight of intense brightness with its thousands
of gradations from cobalt blue to turquoise, with its crystalline
waters of an unique transparency; you can change your itinerary
every day (a good road network allows you to effect long walks in
a brief time choosing lanes and deviations that from the sea brings
you in land and viceversa or in another maritime locality from the
Jonio to the Adriatic) where there are numerous and wide
beaches of white sand ideal for families with children (from Torre
dell'Orso to Otranto Porto Cesareo, Gallipoli,
Ugento ecc.) let alone many other localities with spectacular
cliffs over a sea rich in fish, for the more experienced swimmers
and scuba lovers, interrupted only by rocks reachable by sea, bays,
burrows, and caves (Castro, S. Casarea, Porto Miggiano,
Porto Badisco, Porto Selvaggio, S. Caterina,
Torre S. Giovanni, S. Maria di Leuca, ecc.). Ancient
sighting towers can be seen on the cost to defend the fishermen.
and their boats in sheltered inlets from Turkish invasions.
The fish is very suggestive when it has just
been fished: the mullet from Porto Cesareo, the lobsters from Leuca,
squids, mullets, pray, octopuses; the fish market of Gallipoli
with its auction , choreographic sceneries of fishermen extricating
the nets after a night at sea.
The taste and the perfume of the sea in the sea urchings
just fished or special orders tasted with lemon and eaten with the
typical home made bread, is surely an important stopping place for
the tourist at Castro, Porto Badisco and in other maritime localities.
